Different types of medals

We can produce many different types of awards and medals. Common options include enamel medals, printed medals, custom/special medals and sports medals. Below we explain the differences, so you can choose the right medal for your event.

• Enamel medals: These medals are made from a metal base that is stamped or cast to match your design. The line art is then filled with enamel, with each enclosed area receiving one colour. Enamel medals can be worn using a cord, ribbon or chain.
• Printed medals: Printed medals use a stainless-steel base cut to your design, with the artwork printed in full colour. The print is protected with an epoxy coating. They can be worn with a cord, ribbon or chain.
• Plastic medals: Full-colour medals in your own design – including gradients and shadow effects – printed on plastic with a single attachment eyelet. Plastic medals can be worn with a cord or ribbon.
• Sports medals: These medals can be produced in various ways. Possible techniques include stamped metal and soft enamel. They can also include special effects such as 3D.
• Custom medals: For example wooden medals with laser engraving, 3D printed medals, 3D cast metal medals and unique ceremonial chains.
• Ceremonial chains: These ceremonial chains can be made using different techniques, such as soft or hard enamel and 2D stamping, fully to your design. Available with a silver or gold-coloured chain.
• Wooden medals: Sustainably produced medals made from leftover production wood or prunings, engraved with a laser. Perfect for events where sustainability/nature is central.

Designing and ordering medals

Want personalised medals? Carnival medals, sports medals or a medal with your logo—anything is possible. You can choose from many types and sizes and (have us) design them with you. Ordering medals at Pro-Merchandise is simple and fast.

Medal sizes

You can choose the size of your medals yourself. The size often depends on the medal type you choose. Most designs are roughly between 4x4 cm and 12x12 cm, with a thickness of approx. 2.5 mm. Larger is possible too—just keep in mind that very large medals can become heavy.

Colours

The colour options depend on the medal type. Printed and plastic medals can be produced in full colour (including gradients and shadows). Enamel medals are filled as line art, where each enclosed area receives one colour—so gradients and shadows are not possible. You choose how many colours you want. For soft enamel medals and sports medals we work with PMS colours as a reference. See our PMS colour chart here. Important: we only refer to PMS colours and match as closely as possible; the final result may differ from colours on your screen.

Metal finishes

Attachments

A medal should stand out—around the neck (or on the chest). We can supply medals with three attachment options: chains, ribbons and cords. Chains are available in silver and gold colour. Ribbons come in all colours of the rainbow—also with fully custom printing if you like. Our attachments are supplied as standard with a length of 80 cm. Prefer a different length? No problem—just let us know.

Packaging & lead times

No matter what you order at Pro-Merchandise, your medals will always be packaged neatly. We pack our medals in polybags (when individually packed) or in boxes/envelopes (depending on quantity). Gift and retail packaging is also available on request.

Typical lead times for medals are around 2–4 weeks, depending on the medal type. This guideline applies to runs up to approx. 2,500 pieces.
